An Attitude of Gratitude

Could you be better at practicing gratitude daily? And if you were better what would that give you?

An attitude of gratitude goes a LONG way to sustained happiness, being in the now and…you guessed it different brain waves = neural chemistry! (If there is a hormonal bonus I am in).

For those who think this a fluffy way to supercharge your brain, trust me I was a HUGE skeptic too. However, there is more to having an attitude of gratitude than meats the eye - in fact there is a fair amount of research behind this very simple phenomenon. From a recent Berkley university study - “More specifically, we found that when people who are generally more grateful, gave more money to a cause, they showed greater neural sensitivity in the medial prefrontal cortex, a brain area associated with learning and decision making.”

The prefrontal cortex is the area we wake up, shake up and strengthen in our MENTAL FITNESS intensives, because it is partly where the SAGE part of your brains resides. If you want greater results your SAGE brain really needs to be in full flow.

But more about the SAGE brain later.

I mean feeling blessed and feeling grateful is amazing it really is, especially when you feel it deep in your bones, not just in your head! Feeling it in your bones makes it pack and extra chemical punch & it is a therapy that is 100% FREEEEEEEEEEEE….I mean again where do I sign up?

This is what I love about concept of micro-habbiting yourself to success. Micro-habits are the absolute bomb, they are small little 1% shifts that we can sneak in whilst doing something else, and best of all these little 1%’s all pile up over time. But because they are micro our brain doesn’t cotton on to the fact that we are steadily changing through wee little increments, it is genius really!

I remember straight out of coaching school my mentor said to me, start a habit of asking “what was your highlight of the day” when having a family dinner. FYI it is a far better question than “how was your day?” Well holy smokes did that change the dinner time conversations! It was enlightening and sensational and BUILT VERY STRONG NEURAL PATHWAYS to that prefrontal cortex of our young men as the whole time we were unknowingly actually stoking the attitude of gratitude the whole time.

Have a go using our graphic to kickstart your own gratitude list (starting today!)…and remember get visceral with your gratitude, and creative.
